Influences and Thanks

The following individuals have been of major influence on my training throughout the years.

Tony Cecchine: Tony showed me a different side of grappling that was a perfect fit to my own style. His system of grappling is rough, very rough, and I learned a ton from him regarding constant pressure and delivering pain to gain compliance. I also consider his material to be the most adaptable to real world violence. Solutions to real world violence are what I look for when it comes to training and learning, he has that and more.

Mike Jen:  I learned a ton about technical grappling through Mike Jen. I was a former member of his BJJ association and attended several of his seminars. He always provided top notch no-BS teaching and helped me on areas I needed work on. He never held back what he showed and always had the right attitude. He was a pleasure to learn from and I thank him greatly!

Lance Campbell: The Sambo/Sombo world is full of politics and it often resembles children on a playground bickering over next to nothing. Lance is one of the few people I’ve met in the Sombo world who pushes that nonsense aside and focuses on the individual’s achievements and growth. He lets you develop your own style rather than forcing a set style on you.

Tony Blauer: Though I have never met Mr. Blauer, his materials and teachings have had a major impact on the way I look at self-defense training and how it relates to the real world. His philosophies are no-nonsense and straight to the point. He takes self defense training and strips it down to what works, period! In the end, it is what works and will save my or a loved one’s life that matters.

There are several others that also had influence on my martial arts training either directly or indirectly  including Boyd Ritchie, Igor Yakimov, Don Banville, Joe Nye, Bill Patterson, Brett Jaques and Vince Fields.
